Kupcho Leads Wake Forest at Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team carded a first-round 305 at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at UNC Finley Golf Course. Freshman Jennifer Kupcho led the Demon Deacons with a 1-over 73.

Duke leads the Tar Heel Invitational at 3-under. Michigan State's Katie Sharp is in the individual leader with a 4-under 68. Wake Forest is in 14th place, tied with UNC Wilmington, with two rounds to play.

Wake Forest's top two scores in the opening round were turned in by freshman. Kupcho carded a 1-over 73 with three birdies and is tied for 14th place. Freshman Antonia Eberhard followed with a 4-over 76.

Junior Sierra Sims and sophomore Erica Herr posted matching round of 6-over 78. Sierra Sims made the turn at 1-under but struggled on the back nine to finish with a 78. Herr made the turn at 5-over but was able to pick up just one stroke on the back nine to finish 6-over.

Senior Mariana Sims rounded out the team scores at 10-over 82. Freshman Ines Laklalech competed as an individual and posted an 8-over 80.

The Demon Deacons are paired with UNC Wilmington and LSU for Saturday's second round.
