CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Jennifer Kupcho fired a 1-under 71 in the final round of the Tar Heel Invitational to finish in fifth place. The Demon Deacons took 13th as a team.

The Demon Deacons moved up one spot to 13th place in the final round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational. Wake Forest tied with Oregon at 44-over. The final round was the best of the weekend for the Deacons with a 296, after rounds of 305 and 307. Duke won the event by 13 strokes over second-place Arkansas. Duke's Leona Maguire took the individual title at 4-under. She held on to a one stroke lead over Michigan State's Sarah Burnham.

Kupcho fired a 1-under 71 on Sunday to finish even for the weekend with rounds of 73-72-71. The freshman finished fifth individually to post her second-straight top 10 finish. She placed eighth at the Paladin Invitational.

Sierra Sims posted her best round of the tournament with an even par 72. She finished 13-over for the weekend. She birdied three holes down the stretch to go from 2-over to even at the finish.

Sophomore Erica Herr posted a round of 4-over 76. She was 23-over for the tournament. Freshman Antonia Eberhard turned in a 5-over 77 on Sunday to finish 16-over (76-79-77). Senior Mariana Sims finished 10-over on Sunday and 25-over for the weekend.

Freshman Ines Laklalech competed as an individual and fired a 1-under 71 on Sunday. She got better as the weekend went along with rounds of 80-79-71 to finish 14-over.

Up next the Demon Deacons will defend their title at the Landfall Tradition. The tournament, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall, is set for Oct. 23-25. Last year Wake Forest became the first three-time champion in the 13-year history of The Landfall Tradition.
