Oct. 24, 2009 WILMINGTON, NC - Behind sophomore Cheyenne Woods' career-low 69, the Wake Forest women's golf team carded the lowest round of the day and jumped 11 spots to second after 36-holes of the Landfall Tradition. The Demon Deacons started the day in 13th place after an opening round 304 but thanks to under-par rounds from Woods and senior Dolores White, the Deacons shot the only sub-par round of the day, a 1-under 287, and are now in second place at 15-over. Woods took the individual lead after carding her second-straight sub-par round. She made a total of five birdies on Saturday en route to firing a career-best 3-under 69. She has a one-shot lead at 5-under par over Auburn's Cydney Clanton, who is at 4-under par. Woods was 3-under through her first eight holes and held the individual lead at 5-under par. A bogey on the par-4 third dropped Woods back to 2-under for the day but she still held a two-shot lead. She then birdied the par-5 sixth to get back to 5-under for the tournament which is where she would finish the round after three more pars. This is the first time Woods has held a lead in career heading into the final round. Senior Dolores White continued her strong fall as she fired a season-low 2-under 70 on Saturday. She got off to a great start, making three birdies in the first seven holes to make the turn at 2-under par. She then parred all nine holes on the second-nine to card her first sub-par round of the season. White heads into the final round tied for 11th at 2-over par. After a tough opening round, freshman Stephanie Kim rebounded with solid round of 1-over 73. She made a birdie at the par-4 first, her tenth of the day, to get to 1-over par and after eight more pars, she would card her lowest round of the year. Junior Natalie Sheary had 11-straight pars to her day before bogeying four of the next six to fall to 4-over for the round. But the two-time All-American finished the round off in style with a birdie at the par-4 ninth to finish with a 75. She will start the final round tied for 48th at 8-over. Freshman Stephanie Kim rounded out the Deacons scorers with a 4-over 76 on Saturday. She made the turn at 4-over but regrouped to play the final nine holes at even par. The rookie stands in a tie for 62nd with a round to play. UCLA came into the second round in a tie for second at 5-over par. After a round of 2-over 290 on Saturday, the Bruins hold an 8-shot lead over the Deacons at 7-over par. Arizona State also came into the round tied for second but slipped to third at 16-over, just one shot behind the Deacs. Fellow Pac Ten-foe Southern Cal, the first round leader, shot a 309 on Saturday to fall back to ninth. The final round will begin with an 8:30 am shotgun start Sunday morning. Wake will be in the final group with UCLA and Arizona State.
