WILMINGTON, N.C. - Heavy rain from hurricane Sandy forced the cancellation of the final two rounds of the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
The Demon Deacons opened with a round of 12-over 300 in nice conditions on Friday and were tied for seventh after the opening round. Round two was started Saturday morning and the field got through between eight and 11 holes before play was halted. The plan was to restart Sunday morning and finish the second round but heavy rain over night forced tournament officials to shorten the event to just 18 holes.
Sophomore Allison Emrey shot the lowest round of her career, a 1-under 71, on Friday and posted the first-career top-5 finish. Junior Olafia Kristinsdottir finished in a tie for 23rd at 2-over par. Kristinsdottir was even-par through eight holes of her second round on Saturday before play was called.
Oklahoma State was deemed the team champion after shooting a 4-over 292 on Friday. Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 on Friday and is the 2012 Landfall individual champion.
The Demon Deacons will take the winter months to work on their games before returning to action at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. That event is set to begin on Monday, Feb. 11.
