CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The Wake Forest women’s golf team opened play in its final event of the fall with Friday’s first round of the Battle at the Beach. The Demon Deacons shot 6-over during the opening round at Camp Campestre and are tied for sixth place.

Oklahoma has the 18-hole lead at 3-under, followed by UCLA at 2-under and Houston at 1-under. Texas is fourth at 2-over, Auburn is fifth at 4-over while the Deacons are tied with Baylor and Virginia for sixth place.

Junior Jennifer Kupcho is tied for the first round lead after shooting a 4-under 67 on Friday. Siyun Liu is also in the top 10 after the opening round, posting a 1-under 70 to be T-8th. Emilia Migliaccio shot even par 71 to finish the day T-17th. Mai Dechathipat and Monica Schumacher rounded out the lineup with rounds of 82 and 83, respectively.

Jennifer Kupcho finished T-6th at 9-under after posting a final-round 68. Siyun Liu was T-13th at 5-under following a final round 70.

“Jennifer played great today,” said head coach Dianne Dailey. “All parts of her game were on. She played smart with her approach shots and her short game was excellent. She did not have a three-putt on these large and undulating greens. Emilia and Swing were solid we are looking forward to tomorrow. We all learned a lot about the course today and will improve our standing.”

The Demon Deacons conclude the fall portion of their schedule in early November with the Baylor-Texas Collegiate, held at Camp Campestre in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
