April 29, 2003 Winston-Salem, N.C. - The 14th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team received an at-large bid on Monday to participate in the NCAA East Regional on May 8-10 in Clemmons, N.C. at the Par 71, 6,114-Yard Salem Glen Country Club. The Deacons are the official host school of the regional. Wake Forest received the number five seed. Duke will be the top-seeded team in the East with the following rounding out the field in seed order -- Arizona, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Georgia, South Carolina, Tulane, North Carolina, Florida State, South Florida, East Carolina, Furman, UNC Wilmington, NC State, Mississippi State, Penn State, Mississippi, Western Carolina, Georgia State and St. Francis. The regional will be a three-day, 54-hole tournament with 18 holes played each day. The top eight teams and top two individuals -- not on one of those eight teams -- advance on to the NCAA Championships to be played May 20-23 at the Kampen Golf Course West Lafayette, Ind. Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. each day off the first and tenth tees with the last tee time at 1:20 p.m. Wake Forest is coming off its fourth consecutive runner-up finish in the ACC Tournament. The Deacons shot a school record 285 in the final round to finish second to Duke. All-ACC and All-America candidate and ninth-ranked Nuria Clau led the Deacs with a second place finish while senior Maria Beautell and sophomore Ashley Hoagland tied for eighth. A year ago, the Deacons finished third in the East Region with Clau finishing in a tie for 13th. The Deacons then placed 22nd in the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Wash.
