WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women’s golf program announced Thursday (Aug. 3) the addition of two transfer students who will join the team in 2017-18. Mai Dechathipat comes to the Demon Deacons after playing two seasons at Auburn and Siyun Liu joins the program after an All-Big Ten freshman season at Illinois.

Liu comes to Wake Forest after playing her freshman season at Illinois in 2016-17. Liu led the Fighting Illini with a 74.08 stroke average last season, posting three Top-20 finishes. She earned second team All-Big Ten honors as she posted Top-30 finishes at both the Big Ten Championship and the NCAA Albuquerque Regional. A native of Shanghai, China, she finished her freshman season ranked in the top 150 of the GolfStat individual rankings.

Dechathipat joins the Demon Deacons after playing her freshman and sophomore seasons at Auburn. She competed in 16 events over her two seasons with the Tigers, posting a scoring average of 77.98. Last season, she posted a pair of Top-20 finishes and was a member of Auburn’s lineup at the NCAA Athens Regional. Originally from Thailand, Dechathipat moved to the United States at age 13 where she played high school golf at Montverde Academy in Florida and was one of the top recruits in the class of 2015.

“We are very excited to have both Siyun and Mai joining our program this fall,” said head coach Dianne Dailey. “Both are good people, good students and good golfers that will be tremendous additions to our program. Siyun was playing No. 1 for Illinois last year and Mai was one of the top juniors in the country when she went to Auburn. We welcome them to the Wake Forest family and are excited to see them play for our program.”

The Demon Deacons open the 2017-18 season with the Cougar Classic, held Sept. 4-5 in Kiawah Island, S.C.
