Dodd and Sims Tee-It-Up In US Amateur This Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Wake Forest women's golfers Marissa Dodd and Mariana Sims are playing this week at the US Women's Amateur Championship which is being played at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

The tournament gets underway on Monday with the first of two 18-hole stroke play rounds. After the second round on Tuesday, the top 64 players will them move on to match play, which will determine a champion on Sunday.

Dodd shot a round of 71 on July 11 at the Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club to finish second in her qualifier. The rising-sophomore has experience in USGA events as she finished runner-up last year in the US Women's Amateur Publinks Championship and then later played in the2011 US Amateur. As a freshman for the Deacons last season, Dodd finished tied for third on the team with a 76.9 scoring average.

Sims will be a freshman for the Demon Deacons this coming fall. She advanced to the championship after firing a round of 70 at the SAPONA COUNTRY CLUB in Lexington, N.C. Sims is one of the top junior players in the country and is ranked in the top-30 in the class of 2012 according to juniorgolfscoreboard.com. She qualified for the U.S. Juniors in both 2009 and 2010.

Dodd begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning while Sims will start at 8:10 a.m. Follow USGA.org for all of the scores.
