WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey has announced the signing of Austin, Texas, native Mariana Sims for the class of 2016. Sims signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Wake Forest starting next fall.

Sims is one of the top junior players in the country and is ranked No. 30 in the class of 2012 according to juniorgolfscoreboard.com. She qualified for the U.S. Juniors in both 2009 and 2010 and was runner-up at the prestigious Bill Dickey Jr. Invitational this past summer at the Golf Club of Georgia. Sims finished fifth in a strong field at the 2009 Arizona Silver Belle Championship and then won the event in 2010, topping a number of the best collegiate players. She has the makeup of a Wake Forest golfer and that is what drew the eye of Dailey.

"Mariana is a tremendous athlete and we are really excited to have her join our team next year," said Dailey. "She hits the ball well and her short game is solid. She has a great passion for the game and has played well in a number of national events. I watched her play at the U.S. Amateur and I was really impressed with her game."

When Sims arrives on campus next fall, she will be joining a young team. The Deacons' lineup this past fall featured four new faces at times but Dailey thinks Sims will have no problem fitting in with that group.

"She'll be a great addition to the team," Dailey said. "She knows a number of the players on the team already. She played against Marissa (Dodd) in high school and has been to a couple of our tournaments and has played in other amateur events with some of our players. So I don't think it will be hard for her to fit in with this group at all."
