HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Wake Forest opened the 2016 campaign with an exhibition loss at James Madison, 4-1, at University Park on Thursday night.

Sarah Medina scored the lone goal for the Demon Deacons, putting away a Bayley Feist assist in the 15th minute which cut JMU's lead from 2-0 to 2-1.

Sydney Braun-McLeod recorded a goal and two assists, and Ashley Herndon scored a pair of goals including a penalty kick to lead the Dukes, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago.

Lindsay Preston made two saves in net for the Deacs, while Nonie Frishette played the final 22 minutes and made one save without conceding a goal. Olivia Miller made three stops for JMU.

The Deacs were outshot 16-6, including 6-0 in the second half.

"There are plenty of learning opportunities from tonight's poor showing," head coach Tony da Luz said. "We will learn, improve and respond."

Wake Forest returns home for another exhibition on Saturday, playing host to Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m.
