WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest took advantage of a strong defensive effort to earn its first shutout of the season, beating La Salle, 1-0, at Spry Stadium on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the Wake Forest Invitational presented by The Loop Pizza Grill.

Goalkeeper Lindsay Preston stopped all three shots on goal she faced to earn her seventh career shutout, while Maddie Huster scored the game-winning goal in the 31st minute off a Kate Ravenna cross to put the Demon Deacons (2-0) in front.

Wake Forest is 2-0 for the first time since opening the 2013 season 5-0, also the last time the Deacs made the NCAA Tournament.

The Deacs out-shot the Explorers by a 15-7 margin, led by Madison Hammond (three) and Huster (two). Seven different Deacs put shots on goal, but La Salle keeper Larisa Zambelli made six saves. Wake Forest also took five corners without surrendering any, and committed four less fouls.

Wake Forest returns to action for its only two road non-conference games, traveling to FIU on Thursday and to UNCG on Sunday.
