FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 15 Wake Forest women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 road victory over Francis Marion on Friday afternoon at FMU Soccer Field in Florence.

Wake Forest controlled the game from start to finish. The Deacons out-shot Francis Marion 20-4, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Wake Forest had five corner kicks compared to one for the Pioneers.

The Deacons jumped out on top early, scoring in the 13th minute. Sarah Winslow sent a pass to Jill Hutchinson, who turned and fired a shot from 11 yards out to beat the Francis Marion keeper. The goal was Hutchinson's second of the season.

Junior Caitlin Farrell scored just under three minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0. After the FMU goalkeeper failed to clear the ball, Farrell took the loose ball from six yards out and scored.

Francis Marion had its best scoring opportunity of the game in the 60th minute. Sophomore Margaret Fanning's free kick from past midfield bounced over the head of Wake Forest goalkeeper Amanda Barasha, but the ball rolled just outside the left post.

Wake Forest scored its final goal of the game at the 75:06 mark. Hutchinson found junior Allie Sadow with a pass down the left side of the field. Sadow angled an 11-yard shot past the keeper for her second tally of the season.

Wake Forest goalkeepers Barasha and Laura Morse combined on the clean sheet. Barasha played the first 72 minutes of the contest, making one save, while junior Laura Morse played the final 18 minutes of the game, also making one stop.

The Deacons return to action on Sunday as they host UNC-Wilmington at Spry Stadium. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. (ET). Live stats and a recap of the match will be available on wakeforestsports.com.
