BLACKSBURG, Va. - The opening game of the Hawthorn Suites Hokie Invitational was a heartbreaker for the No. 24 Wake Forest women's soccer team, who out-shot Loyola (Md.) 19-6 and had an 8-0 corner kick advantage, but still suffered a 2-1 loss after 90 minutes.

Wake Forest now stands at 2-2-0, while Loyola posted its first win to bring the Greyhound record to 1-2-0.

The Greyhounds charged out of the gate, scoring the first goal in the 4th minute from a penalty kick and followed with a second goal in the 9th minute to set the finally Loyola tally.

The Deacs registered 19 shots total, including 10 shots on goal. Greyhound goalkeeper Brittany Henderson posted nine saves during the contest, proving to be a crucial part of the Loyola victory.

Sophomore striker Sarah Winslow hit the Deacs' only goal in the 82nd minute, taking a pass from Kaley Fountain.

On Sunday, the Deacs will continue in Blacksburg, playing No. 13 Tennessee.
