WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest knocked off Davidson, 1-0, at Spry Stadium on Sunday afternoon to finish the non-conference slate undefeated for just the second time in program history.

The Demon Deacons (8-0-0) put together an offensive barrage, taking 25 shots and 16 of them on target, but the Wildcats (4-4-0) withstood it outside of a Caroline Wootten goal at the 20:00 mark.

Off passes from Sarah Medina and Maddie Huster, Caroline Wootten connected on a cross from short-range to find the back of the net for the game-winner, her first of the season.

Davidson didn't get a shot off for the first 83 minutes, and was out-shot 25-3 in total.

Wootten, Huster and Peyton Perea led the offensive attack with four shots apiece, while Sarah Teegarden and Kahla Seymour each took three.

Nonie Frishette made her first start of the year in goal and saved the only shot on goal she faced. The shutout was her first and Wake Forest's sixth of the season, most since the Deacs had eight in 2013.

• Wake Forest's 16 shots on goal were the program's most since the Deacs tallied 17 against Denver in 2004.
• Seven different Deacons put shots on frame, including multiple from Caroline Wootten (four), Sarah Teegarden (three), Maddie Huster (three), Kahla Seymour (two) and Madison Hammond (two).

• With No. 3 Virginia's loss to No. 20 Georgetown, the Deacs are the only team in the league to head into ACC play unbeaten and untied.
• Wake Forest also finished the non-conference regular season schedule undefeated in 2013.

• The Demon Deacons are 8-0-0 for the third time in program history.
• The program's best start ever came in 2002 with a 9-0-0 start. Wake Forest also opened the 1996 season 8-0-0.

• Wake Forest heads into ACC play, beginning with a home contest against No. 13 Clemson on Friday at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
