WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest dropped its ACC-opener, the team's first loss of the season, by a 2-1 margin to No. 13 Clemson at Spry Stadium on Friday night.

The Tigers (6-2, 1-0 ACC) scored back-to-back goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, before the Demon Deacons (8-1, 0-1 ACC) pushed forward in the final 30 minutes.

Peyton Perea dribbled along the right side and sent a shot through the hands of the Clemson keeper in the 83rd minute to cut the Tigers' lead in half. The Clemson defense tightened up after that, surrendering just one more shot the final seven minutes.

Wake Forest and Clemson finished even in shots, 15-15, but the Tigers put 10 on target compared to six for the Deacs.

Clemson's first goal game in the 58th minute, when Claire Wagner's free kick from 25 yards found the head of Miranda Weslake for the upper-90 finish.

Off a long throw-in by Sam Staab in the 64th minute, another header found the back of the net, this time from Jenna Weston.

Lindsay Preston made eight saves - one off her career-high, but suffered her first defeat. Kailen Sheridan made five saves for Clemson.

Perea led the deacs with five shots, and three of the team's six shots on goal. Bayley Feist added four shots, including a header that caromed off the crossbar in the 75th minute.

Wake Forest is back in action on Sept. 22, traveling to No. 3 Florida State for a 7 p.m. contest.
