RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State pulled a Halloween upset on No. 23 Wake Forest, defeating the Demon Deacons 2-1 on Thursday at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh.

The Deacons (10-6-2, 5-6-2 ACC) had jumped in front less than eight minutes into the contest, but the Wolfpack (7-12-0, 2-11-0 ACC) scored somewhat of a fluke goal directly off of a corner kick to tie the game and then took the lead shortly after halftime.

With the loss, the Deacs finish in ninth place in the ACC standings, missing the ACC Championship for the first time in program history.

The Deacons took the lead in the eighth minute off the foot of Riley Ridgik. Ally Berry cut in from the right and took a shot that was blocked by the Wolfpack defense. Berry collected the rebound, dished to Ridgik who was making a late unmarked run and Ridgik blasted a shot past Mackenzie Stelljes for her 10th score of the year.

Ridgik is currently riding a four-match scoring streak. Her 10 goals are tied for the ninth-most in program history.

But the Wolfpack answered back on a bit of a flukey play. Megan Proper, playing in her final game in an NC State uniform, took a corner kick from the left side and curled it directly inside the far post to tie the game.

NC State took the lead just after halftime. A passing combination between Jennie Krauser abd Caroline Gentry send Brittany Stanko through on goal and Stanko finished one-on-one with Bledsoe for the eventual game-winner.

Wake Forest will have to wait until Nov. 11 to find out its fate for the NCAA Championship. The selection show will be broadcast on
