WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 12 Wake Forest women's soccer team defeated No. 25 Miami 2-0 at Spry Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The win inched the Demon Deacons past Florida State in the ACC regular season standings, giving the squad a second place conference finish behind North Carolina with an 11-5-3, 6-2-2 record. Miami is now 4-4-2 in ACC play and 9-6-4 overall.

Amy Smerdzinski netted the game-winner in the 43rd minute, with assists by Allie Sadow and Camelyn Dillon. Sadow set the final Deacon mark at 2-0 with a goal in the 76th minute.

The Deacons will begin post season play at the ACC Tournament on Wednesday in Lake Buena Vista, Florida at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. Brackets and game times will be announced early this week.

The first 20 minutes of Sunday's match consisted of back and forth midfield action. After the Deacons got a feel for the Miami defense, which often featured six Hurricanes inside the penalty area, WFU dominated possession and out shot UM by a 5-3 mark at the end of the first half.

Just when it looked like the teams would enter the halftime break scoreless, WFU's Amy Smerdzinski netted the first goal of the match in the 43rd minute. Allie Sadow caught Camelyn Dillon's free kick on right side of the Miami net and completed a cross to Smerdzinski who shot the zinger from 15 yards on the left.

In the second half, Miami was dominant of possession for the first 15 minutes. The Deacons came back to take control and fired six shots to Miami's four.

Allie Sadow netted the final goal of the match in the 76th minute, after breaking through the Hurricane pack to take a shot from the middle of the penalty area. Bess Harrington registered her first assist of the season in the play.
