Betfort and DeMarco Called Up For La Manga Tournament

CHICAGO, Ill. - Wake Forest women's soccer freshman Hannah Betfort and incoming freshman Giovanna DeMarco will travel to Spain with the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team to play in the La Manga 12 Nations Tournament, U.S. Soccer announced Friday.

Twenty-two players were called up by the U.S. U-18 WNT head coach Jaime Frias, including a mixture of collegiate and youth club players. Eight players were born in 1999 while 14 were born in 2000.

The U-19 La Manga 12 Nations Tournament is a friendly competition for players born on or after Jan. 1, 1999. The USA will face England on March 2, followed by the Netherlands on March 4 and wrap up the tournament against Norway on March 6.

Other teams competing in the tournament include Denmark, France, Italy, Scotland, Sweden, Iceland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Both Betfort and DeMarco were called up to a concurrent U-19 and U-18 training camp held in Lakewood Ranch, Florida from Feb. 10-17. DeMarco was one of 24 players called up to the U-19 camp, and only one of five who is still playing with a youth club, while Betfort was one of 24 invited to the U-18 camp.
