WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Nine talented players will join the Wake Forest women's soccer program in the fall, head coach Tony da Luz announced today.
Committing to play for the Demon Deacons were Casey Brown, Claudia Day, Monreau DeVos, Ally Haran, Maddie Huster, Sarah Medina, Lindsay Preston, Kahla Seymour and Pilar Torres.
"Our fans are going to be really happy with this freshman class," head coach Tony da Luz said. "This is a great blend of players both athletically, size-wise and speed-wise and there's a lot of soccer brains, technique and great instincts in there as well.
"This freshman class will dramatically raise the competition for playing time this season. It seems like they are a fun group from a personality standpoint, but they want to work and win games."
Huster and Medina bring U.S. Youth National Team experience with them to Wake Forest, with Huster having competed for the U-18, U-15 and U-14 teams and Medina also playing for the U-14 team.
The group of nine players consists of one goalkeeper, two defenders, two midfielders and four forwards.
A number of members of the class played together on club teams. Brown, Medina and Preston all played with Florida Kraze Krush while DeVos and Haran were both members of the Michigan Hawks.
Casey Brown - 5-9 - Forward - Orlando, Fla. - Winter Park High School - Florida Kraze Krush
Four-year letterwinner at Winter Park High School under Head Coaches Brian Hinz and Jimmy Angeles... Helped the Wildcats to a 59-13-15 record during her career... Served as a team captain and netted 93 goals in her four years... Reached the regional semifinals during the 2011-12 season and the quarterfinals in 2012-13 and 2013-14... Played for the ODP State A Team from 2010-12 and captured the regional championship in 2012 en route to an appearance in the national quarterfinals... Made appearances in the 2009 and 2012 State Cup Final Four and was a runner-up in 2013... Led her club team in scoring from 2011-13.
Daughter of Thomas and Barbara Brown... Born July 3, 1996... Full name is Casey Allison Brown.
Da Luz on Brown: "Casey is an attacking player who is very good one-on-one. She's quick, has good size and has amazing potential to make an impact for us right away. She shoots well with both feet and has really great soccer instincts. She dribbles at speed and is a great improviser, so she's going to be exciting to watch."
Claudia Day - 5-11 - Midfielder - Birmingham, Ala. - Briarwood Christian High School - Birmingham United SA
Played for coach Ryan Leib at Briarwood Christian High School, helping the Lions to the state semifinals ... Was named Most Valuable Offensive Player in 2013, scoring 26 goals and adding 12 assists ... Was named to the All-State and All-Birmingham Metro soccer teams in 2013 ... Captain of her club team, Birmingham United, and her high school team ... Was a part of the ECNL Player Development Program in 2012 and 2014

Monreau DeVos - 5-8 - Defender - Grand Rapids, Mich. - Grand Rapids Christian School - Michigan Hawks
Earned four varsity letters in soccer at Grand Rapids Christian School under Head Coaches Larry Klaasen and Bryan Prins... Reached the district finals in 2011, the regional finals in 2012 and the regional semifinals in 2013 with the Eagles... Helped the squad to post a 44-13-9 record in her first three seasons... Earned All-Conference honors in 2011 and 2012, All-District honors in 2012 and 2013 and All-Regional honors in 2013... Also earned Second Team All-State accolades in 2013... Made the ODP regional team in 2011... Was a Super Y national finalist in 2011 and an All-Star in 2009 and 2010... Also played volleyball, advancing to the state quarterfinals in 2012 with a 40-11 record.
Daughter of Doug and Maria DeVos... Born May 16, 1996... Full name is Monreau Christine DeVos ... Sister Micaela played soccer at Illinois State from 2011-12 ... Father Doug played football at Purdue from 1982-86
Da Luz on DeVos: "Monreau is a super versatile player with great athleticism. She heads the ball well and strikes the ball well. She plays outside back with her club team, but she's played up front and in midfield before. She's going to be a player that we can probably put anywhere on the field and she's going to be comfortable."
Ally Haran - 5-9 - Defender - Linden, Mich. - Powers Catholic High School - Michigan Hawks
Played three years of soccer at Powers Catholic High School under Head Coach Art Moody... Helped the Chargers post a 42-2-2 record across her first two seasons... Earned a D3 state championship in 2011 and finished as the runners-up in 2012... Was an All-State Second Teamer in 2011 and an Academic All-State member in 2011 and 2012... Named to the 2012 Michigan Dream Team... Selected in Top Drawer Soccer's Top 150 from 2012-14... Won the State Cup Championship at the U13, U15 AND U18 levels... Part of the Region II Championship team at the U13 and U14 levels... Was an ECNL PDP selection from 2012-14 and a member of the U18 ECNL Midwest Conference Champions... Netted 13 goals on 29 shots as a sophomore and was part of a defense that surrendered just 11 goals in 26 games... Also a strong basketball player, earning First Team All-Conference honors in 2011-12 and 2012-13 and an All-State honorable mention in 2012-13 as well.

Da Luz on Haran: "Ally is a center back who is a very good athlete. She's not flashy; she's just solid and gets the job done. She reads the game well and heads the ball well. She has a very calm personality and is going to be a very steady influence on our back line."
Maddie Huster - 5-4 - Midfielder - Cincinnati, Ohio - St. Ursula Academy - Ohio Elite
Has played for the U.S. U-18 and U-15 National Teams ... Four-year letterwinner at St. Ursula Academy under Head Coaches Dave Ruehl and Becky Evans... Helped the Bulldogs to three consecutive Girls Greater Catholic League championships from 2011-13... The Bulldogs also won the district championship in 2011 and 2012 and the regional championship in 2013... Honored as the 2013 GGCL Player of the Year and a First Team All-State player... Participated in the High School All-American Game... Earned back-to-back First Team All-GGCL honors in 2012 and 2013 after being a Second Teamer in 2011... Was also a First Team All-City selection in 2012 and 2013... Won MVP honors at the Southwest Ohio All-Star Game... Member of the player pools for the U14, U15 AND U18 National Teams... Daughter of Steve and Laura Huster... Born July 5, 1996... Full name is Madeline Marie Huster ... Sister Tori played at Florida State from 2008-11 and was named an All-American. She now plays for the Washington Spirit in the NWSL.
Da Luz on Huster: "Maddie is probably our most intelligent freshman from a soccer brain standpoint. She has unbelievable instincts and vision and just feels the game. She can play out of just about anything. She's going to play in midfield somewhere. She knows the game inside-out, is very vocal on the field and knows the level in the ACC from watching her sister play at Florida State.
Sarah Medina - 5-7 - Forward - Miami, Fla. - Palmer Trinity School - Florida Kraze Krush
Played varsity soccer under Head Coaches Sarah Keminis, Akram Molaka, Joseph Roberts and Phil Gentles... Spent 2009-12 and 2014 at Palmer Trinity School and attended 1st Academy Leesburg in 2013... Earned 1-A District Championships from 2010-12 and 2014... Won the 1-A Regional Championship in 2012 and 2014... Finished as the State Runners-up in 2012 and third in 2014... Captured the Orlando District Championship in 2013... Earned "Player of the Week" accolades from the Miami Herald Newspaper three times... Member of the ODP Regional Team in 2008-09 and 2011-12... Competed on the U14 National Team... Was an honorable mention for the 2010 Miami Herald All-County Team before earning First Team accolades in 2011 and 2012... Da Luz on Medina: "Sarah is a super fast kid who is very fit and athletic. She plays really hard and tough. She is good on the dribble coming in on the right side and is great getting crosses in. She can play up front or at right back, but it's to be in an attacking role for sure. She's going to push for time.
Lindsay Preston - 5-9 - Goalkeeper - Winter Park, Fla. - Oviedo High School - Florida Kraze Krush
Played three years in goal at Oviedo High School under Head Coach Scott Waisanen... Posted a 47-12-8 record between the posts for the Lions... Member of the squad that went 20-1-3 and captured the Class 6A State Championship in 2011... Named Oviedo's Rookie of the Year in 2011 and the Defensive Player of the Year in 2012... Was the starting goalkeeper for the Orlando Sentinel 2011 All-Central Florida Team and was the only freshman honored... Earned Seminole Area Conference Second Team honors in 2011 and was a First Teamer in 2012... Competed in the 2014 Seminole County All-Star Game... Won the Florida Premier League Championship in 2012... Named an ESPY Player to Watch by Top Drawer Soccer in 2011... Served as the team captain for the FKK U15-U18 teams from 2011-14... Da Luz on Preston: "In the last year Lindsay has improved a million percent, and she continues to improve because her work ethic is phenomenal. She so athletic and good with her feet that she could play as a field player. Her qualities as a goalkeeper are great reflexes - she's a great shot-stopper - and her mobility is really good. She is really going to push to be a starter this year."
Kahla Seymour - 5-7 - Forward - Reston, Va. - Trinity Christian School - Braddock Road
Won the Virginia State Championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010 with her club squad... Captured the Region 1 Premier League Championship... Member of the U16 USYS National Championship and Region I Championship squads in 2011-12, leading both in scoring... Won the U17 National League Division Championship and the Virginia State Cup Championship in 2012-13... Member of the 2013-14 U18 National League Division Championship team.
Daughter of Stephen and Karen Seymour... Born July 16, 1996... Full name is Kahla Taylor Seymour.
Da Luz: "Kahla can play anywhere up front. She's really good with both feet at shooting and serving balls. She's kind of a natural instinct scorer and is a good dribbler and one-on-one player. I'm looking forward to watching her develop."
Pilar Torres - 5-11 - Forward - Oceanside, Calif. - La Costa Canyon High School - San Diego Surf
Earned four varsity letters at La Costa Canyon High School under Head Coaches Mike Marvil, Eric Lona and Natalie Elkind... Led the Mavericks to an Avocado League championship in 2010-11, a CIF Championship in 2011-12 and an Excalibur tournament championship in 2012-13... Attended the 2013 National Camp on the ODP `96 team... Named a 2013 All-CIF First Teamer... Was La Costa Canyon's most valuable offensive player in 2012... Captured the 2012 and 2013 ODP National Championships as a member of the Cal South team... Member of the Region IV team that won the Interregional Championship Tournament in 2011 and the Regional IV Championship in Las Vegas in 2013... Was a First Team All-Tournament selection at the Region IV Championships in 2010... Racked up a 53-13-9 record with the Mavericks through her first three high school seasons.

Da Luz on Torres: Pilar is a target forward who has really good feet. She holds ball well and strikes the ball a ton with both feet. She can play central in midfield, as a center forward or wide. She is a big strong player, but she is actually very technical. We're going to use her in an attacking role, but she's pretty versatile.
