WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women’s soccer senior Peyton Perea and junior Madison Hammond have been named team captains for the 2018 season.

Perea started in eight games during the 2017 season while making 15 appearances. She finished the season with one goal and three assists, including scoring the lone goal in the season-opener at Georgia. Perea has logged over 2,600 minutes as a Demon Deacon and has recorded nine goals and three assists in her first three seasons.

Hammond was a key component to the Wake Forest backline that recorded 11 shutouts and a program-record 0.76 goals against average in 2017. She started all 21 games for the Deacs as a defender and totaled 1,879 minutes of play. Hammond has started in 35 of 38 games played during her career at Wake Forest, logging nearly 3,000 minutes on the field.

Perea and Hammond replace last year’s captains Ally Haran, Maddie Huster and Lindsay Preston. Haran and Huster are playing professionally in Iceland and the U.S., respectively, while Preston is working towards a master’s from the Wake Forest School of Business.

The Demon Deacons open the 2018 season by hosting an exhibition contest against William & Mary on August 6 at 7 p.m.
