Stengel Named Preseason All-America by All White Kit
Aug. 8, 2012
By Alex Botoman, Wake Forest Media Relations (@SIDeacons) WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest women's soccer forward Katie Stengel was one of only 11 players named to All White Kit's Preseason All-America Team, which was released Wednesday. Stengel, the reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Year, heads into her junior season as one of the most accomplished players in program history. In 2011, she broke her own school scoring records with 19 goals and 46 points and was named a first-team All-America by the NSCAA, making her the first Demon Deacon women's soccer player to take home first-team honors. The Melbourne, Fla. native was an integral part of the Wake Forest squads that advanced to the 2011 College Cup and captured the 2010 ACC Championship. The Deacons will have to do without Stengel for the first part of the 2012 season as she will be representing the United States at the 2012 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which will be held in Japan, beginning on Aug. 20. Wake Forest will play its only exhibition match of the preseason on Saturday at 7 p.m. at College of Charleston and will open the regular season on Aug. 17 against Richmond in Blacksburg, Va.
