Wake Forest vs. Kentucky/East Carolina Game Notes WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 17th-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team looks to continue its perfect start to the 2009 season this weekend when it faces Kentucky and East Carolina. The Demon Deacons travel to Lexington, Ky., to face the Wildcats on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Wake Forest returns home on Sunday to battle East Carolina at 1 p.m. Wake Forest improved to 4-0 on the season last Sunday with a 2-1 victory against Loyola (Md.). With the game tied at one in the 65th minute, seniors Kaley Fountain and Jill Hutchinson combined for the game-winning goal. Fountain played a nice ball to the center of the field for Hutchinson, who deposited her fourth goal of the season to put the Deacs in front. The Demon Deacons were forced to play shorthanded for the final nine minutes of the game after Fountain received a red card. However, Loyola was unable to generate any scoring chances thanks to solid Wake Forest defending. Fountain will be forced to sit out the Kentucky game due to Sunday's red card. Through the first two weeks of the season, Fountain and Hutchinson have led the Deacs. Fountain has an ACC-best five goals and 12 points, while Hutchinson has added four goals and an assist. Kentucky enters Friday's match with a 2-0 record after opening the season with victories against Cincinnati and Louisville. In their last match, redshirt junior Giuleana Lopez's header goal off a corner kick in the first half proved to be the difference against the Cardinals. Lopez and Jenna Goblirsch have led the Wildcats offensively through two games, scoring a goal and an assist. Sam Au has also scored a goal this season for Kentucky. Goalkeeper Sydney Hiance has allowed one goal through two games, making five saves in 14 shots faced. Hiance recorded her first shutout of the season in Kentucky's last game against Louisville. East Carolina carries a perfect 2-0 record into the third weekend of the season. The Pirates have defeated VCU and Gardner-Webb to start the season. ECU will face Stony Brook on Friday, before facing Wake Forest on Sunday. Kimmy Cummings leads the Pirates with two goals on the season. Rachel Wechsler, Amanda Malkiewicz, Bailey Wilcox and Jessica Swanson have all scored one goal. Jen Kurowicki and Berit Hansen have split time in net during the first two games, with each playing 90 minutes. Hansen has allowed a goal and made four saves, while Kurowicki has made three saves, while not allowing a goal. Wake Forest and Kentucky have met just once previously. The two teams met on October 2, 1998, with the Demon Deacons claiming a 3-2 overtime win at the ACC-SEC Challenge in Clemson, S.C. Wake Forest leads the all-time series against East Carolina 5-0-0, including a 3-0-0 lead when playing in Winston-Salem. The two teams last met on October 1, 2003, with the Deacs posting a 1-0 win.
