Wake Forest Notes Get Acrobat Reader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The sixth-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team looks to build on its two-match winning streak in Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend when it travels to NC State on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match and hosts Miami for a 1 p.m. tilt on Sunday.

Wake Forest (10-2-1, 2-1-1 ACC) has won its last two matches in conference play, claiming 3-0 wins against Clemson and then-No. 5 Florida State. The Deacs are currently tied with Maryland for fifth in the league with seven points.

Against the Seminoles, senior forward Jill Hutchinson scored a pair of goals and the Demon Deacon defense held the conference's top offense to just nine shots. Hutchinson was named ACC Player of the Week following her performance, while both Hutchinson and senior defender Caitlin Farrell earned national accolades.

Hutchinson leads the Demon Deacons with 10 goals and 23 points on the season. She is tied for second in the ACC in goals scored and is tied for third in points. Senior Kaley Fountain has added eight goals and 20 points in 2009.

Junior goalkeeper Amanda Barasha has recorded three straight shutouts for Wake Forest and is second in the ACC with a 0.40 goals against average. Against Florida State, Barasha made three saves to record her third clean sheet of the season.

NC State enters Thursday's match with a 7-5-0 overall record. The Wolfpack are 2-3-0 in ACC play and have six points, placing them in a tie for seventh in the league with Miami. NC State is coming off a 5-0 loss to North Carolina last week.

Kara Blosser and Paige Dugal lead the NC State offense with 18 points apiece. Blosser and Dugal have each netted eight goals and added two assists. Alyson Santilli has a team-leading five assists for the Wolfpack.

In goal, Kim Kern has seen most of the time for the Pack, allowing 17 goals and making 41 saves in 1128 minutes of work. Kern has a 7-5-1 record on the season and has three shutouts to her credit.

Miami begins the weekend with a 7-6-0 overall record and a 2-2-0 mark in conference play. Miami is tied for seventh in the league with NC State with six points. The Hurricanes claimed a 2-0 win against Clemson in their last might. Miami faces Duke on Thursday, before meeting the Deacs on Sunday.

Brittney Steinbruch leads Miami with nine points on the season. Steinbruch has contributed three goals and three assists for the Hurricanes. Kate Howarth is also tied for the team lead with three goals on the season. Megan Siebert shares the team lead in assists with three helpers on the campaign.

Vikki Alonzo has played most of the minutes in goal for Miami on the season. Alonzo has given up 12 goals and made 54 saves in 1130 minutes of action. Alonzo has five shutouts on the season and has posted a 7-6-0 record.

Wake Forest leads the all-time series against both NC State and Miami, holding an 11-5-1 edge against the Wolfpack and a 4-1-0 advantage against the Hurricanes.

Sunday's match against Miami is Church Bulletin Day and any fans that bring a church bulletin to the match can buy one ticket and get the second for free.

Tickets for the match against the Hurricanes are $6 and are available at the Spry Stadium box office on gameday.
