WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 11th-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team opens the postseason on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. (ET) when it faces No. 17 Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The Demon Deacons earned the fifth seed in the conference tournament after finishing the regular season with a 13-4-2 overall record and a 5-3-2 conference mark.

The winner of the Wake Forest/Virginia Tech match will face the winner of the Florida State/Duke match in a semifinal on Friday at 5 p.m. The championship game of the ACC Tournament is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.

Wake Forest, which is coming off a 2-1 double overtime loss at No. 7 Boston College on Sunday, is led by a pair of seniors. Jill Hutchinson leads the team with 13 goals and 29 points on the season. Kaley Fountain has a team-best eight assists and has also scored 10 goals for 28 points on the year.

Amanda Barasha has enjoyed a stellar junior season in goal. Barasha posted six shutouts in conference play, leading the league, and has compiled a 0.79 goals against average on the season.

Virginia Tech enters the postseason with a 13-6-0 overall record and a 6-4-0 mark in conference play. The Hokies earned the fourth seed for the conference tournament. Virginia Tech split a pair of games on the final weekend of the regular season, defeating Miami 2-1 and falling 2-1 against Florida State.

The Hokies feature balanced scoring with four players tallying 14 or more points on the season. Kelly Conheeney leads Virginia Tech with 17 points, scoring seven goals and adding three assists. Jennifer Harvey and Marika Gray are tied for second on the team with 16 points. Harvey has a team-high eight goals, while Gray has scored seven goals and two assists. Julian Johnson has contributed 14 points (4 g, 6 a).


 

 

Kristin Carden has played the majority of minutes in goal for Virginia Tech. Carden has a 1.44 goals against average on the season, allowing 17 goals and making 45 saves in 1,062 minutes of action. Carden has an 8-4-0 record on the season.

Wake Forest has a 5-2-0 advantage in the all-time series against Virginia Tech. The Hokies claimed a 4-3 win in the regular season meeting between the two sides. Wednesday's match will mark the first time the two teams have met in the ACC Tournament.
