Wake Forest-South Carolina Notes Get Acrobat Reader | Tournament Central

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After earning its first trip to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 10 years, No. 14 Wake Forest looks to continue its tourney run on Friday when it travels to No. 8 South Carolina. Start time at Stone Stadium is set for 7 p.m. (ET).

Wake Forest (15-5-2, 5-3-2 ACC) opened the tournament with a pair of wins at home last weekend. The Deacs defeated Kennesaw State 2-0 in the first round and downed West Virginia 3-0 in the second round. Junior Casey Luckhurst was the offensive star, scoring the first three goals of her collegiate career. Freshman Ally Berry and senior Jill Hutchinson also found the back of the net against the Mountaineers.

Hutchinson leads Wake Forest with a team-leading 14 goals and 31 points on the season. The 14 goals is a school single-season record, while the 31 points in a season is second in school history. Fellow senior Kaley Fountain is second on the team with 30 points, scoring 10 goals and a team-high 10 assists on the year.

Amanda Barasha and Laura Morse combined for the shutout in both Wake Forest wins last weekend. Barasha has a 0.70 goals against average on the season, allowing 10 goals and making 41 saves in 1278 minutes of action. Morse has played 765 minutes on the season and has a 0.94 GAA.

South Carolina is enjoying its best season in program history as the Gamecocks bring a 19-3-2 overall record into Sunday's match. The 2009 SEC Tournament champions, USC advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history with wins over Davidson and Rutgers last weekend.

The Gamecocks are led offensively by First Team All-SEC selection Kayla Grimsley, who leads the team with 13 goals and 33 points. She has also contributed seven assists on the season. All-SEC second team selection Kim Miller has a team-best 11 assists for South Carolina.

In goal, Mollie Patton has a 0.50 goals against average on the season, allowing 12 goals in 2177 minutes of play. Patton ranks in the top five nationally with 15 shutouts on the season and has a 19-3-2 record in 2009.

Wake Forest and South Carolina are meeting for the first time since 1999. The Demon Deacons lead the all-time series 1-0-1, including a 5-0 win in the last meeting between the teams.
