WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Katie Stengel was named National Player of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer after scoring three goals and eight points to lead the Demon Deacons to NCAA Tournament wins over No. 14 Boston University and No. 13 Penn State.

Stengel scored a goal and assisted on Jackie Logue's game-winner in the Deacons' 2-0 second round victory over the Terriers, before exploding for two goals and an assist in Wake Forest's 4-2 win against the Nittany Lions.

The Melbourne, Fla. native's 18 goals and 44 points this year are new Wake Forest single-season records, besting the previous high marks of 16 goals and 37 points that she set as a freshman in 2010. She currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring and is trying to become the first player to finish as the ACC goal-scoring leader in back-to-back seasons since North Carolina's Mia Hamm accomplished the feat in 1992 and 1993.

Only a sophomore, she has already totaled 34 goals and 81 points in her career, only two goals and five points shy of the Wake Forest career records of 36 goals (Jill Hutchinson, 2006-09) and 86 points (Sarah Kozey, 2002-05).

The 2011 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Stengel has tallied four goals, three assists and 11 points in the Demon Deacons' three NCAA Tournament games this season. She is currently riding a four-match goal-scoring streak.

Stengel and the rest of the Deacons will look to book a trip to their first-ever College Cup when they take on UCF on Friday at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. Wake Forest defeated UCF 1-0 in Orlando, Fla. back in August.
