WFU Tames Nittany Lions 7-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 22 Wake Forest women's tennis team defeated Penn State 7-0 at WFU's Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions are now 1-2 for the season, while the Demon Deacons improved to 1-1 in dual match play. Wake Forest will continue action this weekend with the No. 16 Tennessee Lady Vols on Sunday at 2 p.m. Live scoring for the match will be available here. Wake Forest raced out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles portion of the match. Christian Tara and WFU tennis newcomer Aileen Davis defeated Dorothy Dohanics and Lauren Holzbert at No. 3 8-3. WFU's Sasha Kulikova and Sierra Poske clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 victory over Jenny Shular and Sarah Lotto. Kulikova and Poske are now 2-0 in doubles at No. 2. In singles, the match's only two Georgia natives battled at No. 1, where Wake's Alex Hirsch, out of Atlanta, topped Jenny Shular from Peachtree City 6-3, 6-3. Emilee Malvhey put the Deacons within one match win of taking overall victory on Saturday when she defeated Dohanics 6-2, 6-3. The Wake Forest freshman out of Auburn, California is now 2-0 in singles for the season. Sierra Poske clinched the match at No. 4 singles, defeating PSU competitor Lauren 6-0, 6-3. Kulikova followed a few minutes later, fighting through a 6-5 second set deficit to top Katelyn BeVard 6-0, 7-6. WFU's Christian Tara and PSU's Lauren Holzberg had a tight first set, tying at 5-5 and then 6-6 before Tara took the win 7-6. Tara followed with a 6-2 second set for the fifth Deacon singles win of the night.
At No. 6, Katarina Reveche defeated Denisa Zobeideh 7-5 in the first set, but the PSU competitor knotted the match score with a 6-4 win in the second set. Reveche then took the super tiebreaker win 10-7.
