Old Dominion Escapes With 4-3 Win Over Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to Old Dominion Sunday afternoon at Leighton Stadium. The Monarchs won two of three doubles matches to a take a 1-0 lead and then split the six singles matches to edge the Demon Deacons 4-3. Danielle Schwartz and Elizabeth Proctor led the effort for Wake Forest, winning at both singles and doubles.
Schwartz and Proctor, playing doubles together for the first time, defeated Old Dominion's Verena Munzinger and Kerstin Endlich 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. Schwartz then handed Coralie Hermann a 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 5 singles and Proctor picked up a 7-5, 6-0 win over Julia Sotiriu at No. 4. Wake Forest's Aimee Smith enjoyed a straight set victory at No. 3 singles over Endlich, winning 6-3, 7-5.
With the score tied 3-3, Munzinger rallied to beat WFU's Sandie Knight 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 6 singles, the deciding match.
Wake Forest falls to 1-12 with the loss and Old Dominion improves to 3-6 with the win. The Demon Deacons return to action next weekend when they travel to Atlanta to take on No. 28 Georgia Tech on Saturday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m.
