Forman and Siegler Earn Ranked Doubles Win against Jackets
April 15, 2012
ATLANTA - Wake Forest freshmen Rebecca Siegler and Karen Forman teamed up to post a ranked doubles win, but the Demon Deacon women's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 25 Georgia Tech in its regular season finale in Atlanta on Sunday.
Siegler and Forman took down 63rd-ranked Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn 8-4 at the No. 2 spot to earn the first ranked doubles victory of their respective careers.
But the Yellow Jackets' 10th-ranked tandem of Alex Anghelescu and Jillian O'Neill topped Kayla Duncan and Ryann Cutillo at No. 1 and their No. 3 duo of Christina Ngo and Muriel Wacker beat Brigita Bercyte and Catherine Roach to give Georgia Tech the doubles point.
While Georgia Tech swept the six singles matches, the Demon Deacons put on a good fight at a number of positions. No. 68 Duncan battled 16th-ranked O'Neill at the top position, falling 7-6, 6-4.
Siegler and Forman both split sets with their Yellow Jacket opponents at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions, but lost 10-point tiebreaks that were played in lieu of third sets.
Wake Forest will next compete in the ACC Championship, which will be held next week in Cary, N.C. The Demon Deacons head into the tournament as the No. 12 seed and will open against the conference's No. 5 seed on Thursday at 9 a.m.
