Deacons Win Three Titles at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Four different Demon Deacons took home championship trophies as the Wake Forest women's tennis wrapped up play at the Wake Forest Invitational on Sunday.
Gardiner prevailed in a long match against Winthrop's Caitlin Cridland, notching a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 victory. Forman's win in D Singles came much easier as she blew by UNCG's Amy Ellis 6-2, 6-2.
In the B Doubles final, Guerin and Retolaza Andrade jumped out to an early lead over ETSU's Giulia Andreazza and Jess Brumit and held on for an 8-4 victory.
Guerin and Retolaza Andrade also picked up victories in consolation singles matches as Guerin topped Jordan Johnston (Elon) 6-4, 7-5 and Retolaza Andrade won a 5-7, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (3) marathon against Winthrop's Andressa Garcia.
In other singles action, Brigita Bercyte took down Appalachian State's McKayla Zupan 6-1, 6-3 in E Singles consolation play.
The Deacons fell short in the other two doubles finals. Gardiner and Xue Zhang fell to No. 60 Johnston and Frida Jansacker of Elon in the A Doubles championship, and Forman and Bercyte lost to Elon's Tolley Rice and Viviana Stavreva in the C Doubles title match.
The Deacs will have a few weeks off from competition before traveling to Chapel Hill for the ITA Carolina Regional starting on Oct. 17.
