Zhang Qualifies for USTA/ITA Carolina Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Xue Zhang won two singles qualifying matches to book a spot in the main draw as the Wake Forest women's tennis team opened play at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional on Thursday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Zhang topped UNCW's Kelly Cameron 6-1, 6-3 and Winthrop's Tijana Uzelac 6-3, 6-0 to reach the main draw. She gives the Deacons six main-draw singles entrants, the most for the team since 2010.
The Deacs also got two win in doubles as Kimmy Guerin and Andrea Retolaza Andrade edged Alice Garcia and Andressa Garcia from Winthrop 8-7 (6) and Brigita Bercyte and Kristina Centenari topped Lee Lovett and Alix Theodossoiu of UNCW 8-5. They join two other Wake Forest teams, both of which received a first-round bye, in the second round.
Play will continue tomorrow with the first round of singles and second round of doubles.
