Wake Forest Dominates Doubles at Midwest Blast

By Ben Helms, wakeforestsports.com URBANA, Ill - The Wake Forest women's tennis team had great success in doubles while struggling in singles during the first day of play at the Midwest Blast tournament. Sophomore Karen Forman and freshman Xue Zhang defeated Illinois duo Misia Kedzierski and Julia Jamieson, 9-8(5). Deacons Brigita Bercyte and Andrea Retolaza Andrade lost their match against Breanna Smutko and Audrey O'Connor of Illinois by a score of 8-6. Against Georgia Tech, Bercyte and Retolaza Andrade defeated Megan Kurey and Jasmine Minor, 8-4. Forman and Zhang picked up another doubles win against Georgia Tech, beating Elizabeth Kilborn and Kendal Woodard by a score of 8-5. Wake Forest had difficulty finding success in singles against Purdue. Retolaza Andrade, Zhang, Forman and Bercyte all lost their respective singles matches. Tournament play continues tomorrow with the Demon Deacons taking on Purdue in doubles and Illinois in singles. Midwest Blast Singles Wake Forest vs. Purdue
