GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest women’s tennis player Emma Davis was named the ACC’s Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

The junior from Cohasset, Massachusetts led the Demon Deacons to wins over No. 18 Arkansas and No. 14 Ohio State to hand the Deacs the championship of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Columbus.

Davis, who is No. 72 in the ITA’s singles rankings, went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, including the championship-clinching win over Ohio State’s Anna Sanford. After losing the first set, Davis rallied back to win a third-set tiebreaker to take the match, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).

The win gave the Deacs an ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship and earned them a trip to the ITA National Indoor Championships, held Feb. 9-12 in Madison, Wisconsin.

It will be Wake Forest’s first appearance at the ITA National Indoor Championships since 2003. The Kickoff Weekend title was also the first for the program.

The team’s win over No. 14 Ohio State was its first win over top-15 opponent since defeating No. 10 Virginia on March 20, 2016.

The Deacs are off to a 4-0 start and will not compete until the ITA National Indoor Championships begin on Feb. 9.
