Deacs Headed to Georgia for NCAA Tournament

For the first time since 2009, the Wake Forest women’s tennis team will compete in the NCAA Tournament. The 26th-ranked Demon Deacons will head to the Athens Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia, and will begin play against No. 39 Baylor on Friday, May 13 at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs, the tournament’s No. 5 seed overall, and North Florida will join the Deacons and Bears in the regional, which will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The winners of the first-round matches on May 13 will play for a spot in the NCAA Championships on Saturday, May 14 at 4 p.m.

The NCAA Championships will begin on May 19 at the host University of Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Wake Forest is making its 16th appearance in the tournament and will play in the event for the first time under sixth-year head coach Jeff Wyshner.

The Demon Deacons will enter the tournament with a 19-9 record, including a 7-7 mark in ACC play. They have their most wins in a season since 2002 and had their most conference victories since 2007. They also reached the quarterfinal round of the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2010.

After starting the season ranked No. 71, the Deacs climbed as high as No. 14 on March 22 to join the top 15 for the first time since April of 2007.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children/students and free for children age two and under. Tickets will go on sale online via Georgia’s official athletics website at Wednesday at 9 a.m. through Friday, May 13 at 8 a.m. All ticket sales after that will take place at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
