WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem and Wake Forest University will play host to some of the nation’s top tennis players this week, as the 2017 Winston-Salem Open will be held August 19-26 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

Four members of the Demon Deacon men’s tennis team earned bids into the field, as the tournament draws were announced Friday (Aug. 18) evening.

Rising junior Petros Chrysochos earned a wild card bid into the main draw of the singles field, becoming the first Deac to earn a main draw bid since Noah Rubin did so in 2014. In the opening round of the main draw, Chrysochos will face Dusan Lajovic of Serbia, who is currently ranked No. 82 in the ATP World Rankings. With a win, Chrysochos would face world No. 14 Roberto Bautista Agut, the tournament No. 1 seed, in the second round.

First-round action of the main draw will be held on Sunday and Monday, August 20-21.

Rising senior Skander Mansouri and rising sophomore Borna Gojo each earned wild card bids into the qualifying draw, looking to secure a place in the main draw. Mansouri will face Alex Bolt of Australia in the first round of qualifying while Gojo will take on Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium.

Mansouri will play on Court 2 at 12 p.m. Saturday, with Gojo’s match immediately following on the same court. Should both players win on Saturday, they would then face each other on Sunday, with a spot in the main draw on the line.

Mansouri and fellow rising senior Christian Seraphim will team up in the doubles draw, which will begin on Saturday. The duo will learn their opponents on Saturday when the doubles draw is announced.
