TEMPE, Ariz. -- Wake Forest women's tennis players Emma Davis and Eliza Omirou received national recognition, as the ITA released their annual preseason rankings on Tuesday.

Davis, a junior from Cohasset, Massachusetts, comes in as the No. 46 ranked singles player in the country, her first ever national ranking. In her first two seasons at Wake Forest, Davis has compiled a 52-26 singles record, all playing at No. 1 or No. 2. Last season, Davis was 16-8 playing No. 2. She also added a win in her only match at No. 1.

Omirou, a freshman from Nicosia, Cyprus, comes in at No. 9 on the ITA Freshmen-Newcomer Rankings. By earning the honor, Omirou becomes the first in program history to make the list. Before her time with the Deacs, Omirou has achieved great international success. She was a member of the Cyprus Fedcup Team since 2014. In addition, she has claimed nine singles and has 10 doubles titles in ITF Junior U18 as well as five singles and seven doubles titles in Tennis Europe.

Wake Forest opens the 2017-18 season with a trip to the Furman Invitational, which takes place from Sept. 22-24 in Greenville, South Carolina.
