Davis, Omirou Fall in ITA National Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Wake Forest women’s tennis players Emma Davis and Eliza Omirou saw their run in the Qualifying Doubles draw end on Tuesday at the ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships.

After becoming the first pair of Deacs since 2010 to advance out of the Pre-Qualifying Doubles draw, Omirou and Davis lost to Nina Khmelnitckaia and Anastasia Rychagova of Kansas, 8-4. The Jayhawk combination is currently the 37th ranked doubles pair by the ITA.

After their loss in the Qualifyiing Doubles draw, the pair moved to the Qualifying Doubles consolation bracket, where they concluded play on Wednesday with an 8-4 loss to Iowa's Zoe Douglas and Elise van Heuvelen.

In the Qualifying Singles draw, Davis fell to Northwestern’s Maddie Lipp, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in her opening match. Then, Arizona State’s Kelley Anderson, who is ranked 67th in the nation by the ITA, defeated Davis, 6-3, 1-6, 4-2, ret. in the first round of the Qualifying Singles consolation draw.

Next up for Wake Forest, the team returns home to host the Wake Forest Invitational, which begins this Friday, Oct. 6 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 8.
