Merckle won the ACC javelin title for the second year in a row with a new personal best of 53.94m (177-0)... This mark broke her own Wake Forest school record and the ACC Championship Meet record in the event... She earned All-America Honors (second team) after placing 12th at the NCAA National Meet in Eugene, OR.... As one of the youngest competitors in the field and competing against professional athletes, Merckle placed 11th at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships... Earlier in the season, she won the Wake Forest Open with a school record throw of 51.88m (170-2)... She also won the Georgia Tech Invitational with a throw of 52.09m (170-11)... Merckle ended her stellar sophomore season with the 11th best throw in the NCAA and 16th best mark in the United States.

In 2013, Merckle was the ACC Champion in the javelin with a throw of 49.59m ... First-ever Wake Forest female thrower to win an ACC Championship ... She was school-record holder with a throw of 50.32m which she set at the Wake Forest Open ... Merckle finished first in all four meets she competed in before a season-ending injury ... She had first-place finishes at the Raleigh Relays and the Auburn Tiger Invitational ... Finished the 2013 season with the 17th farthest throw in the NCAA and 23rd farthest throw in the entire United States.
