Merckle was the Pennsylvania State Champion in javelin in 2012 and was named to the 2012 Track and Field News All-American in the javelin ... She ranked fourth nationally at the end of the 2012 season in the javelin with a personal best of 47.75m ... Earned four varsity letters in track and field and basketball for Fort Cherry High School in McDonald, Pa. ... Was a two-time all-district honoree an all-state selection and a three-time WPIAL champion in javelin ... Merckle currently holds Fort Cherry High School individual school records in the javelin (47.75m), the shot put (11.84m), the long jump (5.24m) and the triple jump (10.63m) ... Placed second in the javelin at the USATF World Youth Trial in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in June of 2011 and second overall at the Junior Olympic Championships in Kansas during July of 2011 ... Was also a three-time all-district and an all-state basketball player for the Rangers.
