NASHVILLE - Sydney White set a Wake Forest indoor record as the track and field teams competed at the Commodore Invitational, hosted by Vanderbilt University. Both teams started with day one on Friday and concluded competition with day two on Saturday.

Wake Forest returns to action next weekend, January 23-24, at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia for its fourth meet of the indoor season.

Day One

Wake Forest saw a successful first day at Vanderbilt, which consisted of field events, distance, and relay races. Out of the 11 events that took place on Friday, six Demon Deacons earned top-five finishes on the first day as well as both relay teams.

Highlighting day one for the Deacons was sophomore thrower Charlie Ionata who finished first amongst the collegiate competitors in the weight throw. His toss also set his own PR in the event as he threw a distance of 18.80m (61-8.25). After day one, his distance places him third among ACC performers in the weight throw this season.

Also earning top-five finishes for the men, Michael Cyphers finished in fourth place in the pole vault with a height of 5.05m (16-6.75), which tied his personal record.

Nyki Caldwell led the way for the women clearing a height of 1.71m (5-7.25) earning a first place finish in the high jump. Also coming in first place, Kathleen Darling crossed the finish line in the 5000m at 17:00.68 for a top finish and a new personal best.

In addition, Samantha Jones finished third in the 5000m and Amy Collins also finished in the top-five in the high jump coming in fifth place.

Day Two

Sydney White led the way setting an indoor school record in the women's pole vault on day two of the Commodore Invitational. She cleared 4.05m (13-3.50) to set the record that was previously set by Katie Adair in 2013 at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet.

Others earned top-five finishes in addition to White, freshman Lara-Ann Schwede takes first place in the 800m with a PR time of 2:11.24. Ellie Abrahamson set a new PR finishing with a time of 10:01.10 for a fourth place finish in the 3000m. Hunter Roberts crossed the finish line in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.76 for a fourth place finish.

Leading the way for the men, Kyle Graves set a new PR in the 3000m with a time of 8:18.28 for a first place finish. Also John Maurins set a huge PR in the shot put with a distance of 17.82m (58-5.75), earning a top place finish.

In addition to Graves and Maurins, John Archie clocked a time of 1:55.78 in the 800m run for a third place finish. Jake Poyner also earned a top-five finish running a time of 8:28.19 and finishing fifth in the 3000m run. Like Maurins, Max Adams also performed well in the shot put tossing a distance of 15.99m (52-5.5) for a fifth place finish.
