BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sydney White broke the school record in the women's pole vault as the Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams competed on the final day of the Virginia Tech Elite Meet on Saturday.

White broke her previous record of 4.05m that she set at the Commodore Invitational, clearing 4.12m (13-6.5) at the Elite Meet. She finished in third place among collegiate competitors in the event.

In addition to White for the women, Nyki Caldwll finished seventh in the high jump for a top-10 finish and Amy Collins set a new personal record in the long jump.

Four Deacons finished in the top-five in the women's 3000m among collegiate competitors to lead the way in the running events on the track. Samantha Jones finished in first but finished just behind the unattached competitor. Finishing right behind Jones was Cate Allen, Ellie Abrahamson, and Kathleen Darling in that order.

Leading the way for the men was the 4x800m relay team of Kyle Graves, Simon Holden, Sebastian Fischbach, and John Archie. They finished in first with a superb time of 7:27.82, finishing just a few seconds behind the indoor school record in the event (7:23.59).

Also, in addition to the fantastic performance by the 4x800m relay team, Jake Poyner earned a top-10 finish in the men's 3000m, crossing the finish line in sixth place.

After a weekend off, the Deacons will disperse to three different track meets before the ACC Indoor Championships Feb. 26-28. Wake Forest will compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Va., and the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
