BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest track and field team performed well during the first day of competition at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite meet. The two day event is taking place at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. and includes competition from fellow ACC members Virginia Tech, Virginia, Clemson, Duke, Maryland, NC State, and Miami. SEC members Florida, Georgia, and Auburn also participated among other schools.

On the women's side, Mytoia Gathings has a big day. The junior broke her own school record in the 60-meter dash as she exploded for a time of 7.65 that earned her seventh place in the event. The Winston-Salem, N.C.-native also claimed fourth in the 200m as her time of 24.66 topped her previous personal best time of 24.89.

Sophomore Montasia Golden had a happy homecoming to the Old Dominion state as she earned a fifth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.92.

On the men's side, junior Alexander Rose earned third place in the 3,000-meter run. The Australia native's time of 8:15.40 was just 0.3 seconds shy of his personal best time in the event.

Daniel Harrison finished fourth in the 400m as he set a new personal best with a time of 48.82 placing fourth in the event.

Women's 3,000m Run
Freshman Kathleen Darling raced to a ninth place finish (9:57.37) while topping her previous best time by more than 10 seconds. Sophomore Kaitlyn Oliver followed just behind earning a 10th place finish (9:58.17) that was also good enough for a new personal best. Freshman Meredith Kilburn placed 13th (10:08.55).

Women's 1-Mile Run
Winston-Salem native Ashley Brubaker was the first one across the finish line for the Deacons as her time of 5:11.00 gave her a 13th place finish. Sophomore Aubrey Waggoner placed15th in the race with a time of 15:15.10.

Women's 800m Run
Senior Brianna Dekine topped her previous personal best with a time of 2:17.76 earning 20th place. Freshman Kendal Knous was not far behind coming in at 2:18.94.

Women's 60m Dash
Gathings was the lone Deacon competing in the event, finishing in 7.65 seconds.

Women's Long Jump
Senior Erin Brooks leaped her way to a sixth place finish after clearing 5.70m. Golden earned eighth place (5.58m).

Men's 1-Mile Run
Senior Anthony Marois led the Deacons with a 17th place finish (4:18.06). Fellow seniors Jake Graham crossed the line at 4:22.59 while Nate Guthals finished in 4:29.89.

Men's 800m Run
Junior Thomas Bojanowski led Wake Forest with an eighth place finish (1:53.60). Senior Michael McEnany and junior Kyle Eager followed coming in at 12th (1:54.15) and 13th (1:54.32), respectively. McEnany's time was good enough for a new personal best. Freshman Ryan Horgan finished in 1:59.74.

Men's 200m Open
Sophomore Malcolm Nunley was the lone Deacon competing as he earned 13th place with a time of 22.86.

Men's 60m Dash
Nunley earned seventh as he was the lone Deacon participating again and fell .11 shy of his personal best with a time of 8.26.

Men's Weight Throw
Senior Nate Wooten claimed ninth place with a toss of 16.04m putting him in ninth place.
