CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Caitlin Crawford and Casey Fowler each advanced to the finals of the 1,500m run for the Wake Forest women's track team on the second day of the 2012 ACC Outdoor Championships at the University of Virginia's Lannigan Field on Friday evening.

Crawford and Fowler have been two of the strongest standouts for the women's team this season and certainly continued that trend on Friday as each posted new personal-best times in their signature event. Crawford finished fifth in the preliminary heats in 4:27.49, while Fowler crossed the line very quickly afterward in ninth place with a time of 4:30.95. Both will compete in the finals on Saturday which are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.

Erika Martin and Julie McCauley completed the seven-event heptathlon during Friday's action as well, with Martin finishing fifth overall and McCauley in ninth. Martin's total of 4,702 points represents a new personal-best total, and McCauley finished with 3,771 points.

Through two days of action, the women's team currently sits in 11th place with nine total points. Duke holds a sizeable lead over the rest of the competition with 55 points, but second-place Virginia Tech (39) and third-place Clemson (37) are by no means eliminated from contention as the meet heads into the final day.

Due to the strong potential for inclement weather in the Charlottesville area, all events on Saturday will be pushed forward two hours from their originally scheduled times. Taking this into account, the action will begin with the men's and women's high jump competitions at 10:00 a.m. and the final event, the women's 4x400m relay, will get underway at approximately 3:55 p.m. A full recap of Wake Forest's performances will be posted following the conclusion of the meet tomorrow evening.

Following is an event-by-event recap of the action from the second day of the 2012 ACC Outdoor Championships.
