WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -The Wake Forest track and field teams opened their season Saturday at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic. The event took place at the JDL Fast Track Indoor Track Complex.

In the 300-meter dash, Myesha Barr secured a spot in ninth with a time of 41.10, followed by teammates Anneve Waith in 47th place (46.13) and Phoebe Kershaw in 57th (48.40).

In a racing trio in the women's 500m, Brianna Dekine placed first for the Deacs and third overall with a time of 1:18.70. Teammates Kendall Knous (1:20.04) and Alison Johnson (1:20.31) finished in sixth and eighth places, respectively.

In the mid-distance 1,000-meter run, junior Caitlin Hartnett took fifth place in 3:05.63, followed by Natalie Sukramani in seventh place with a mark of 3:12.08

As the lone Deacon competing in the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Montasia Golden placed 12th with a mark of 9.15, while Mytoia Gathings finished fifth (7.81) in the 60-meter dash.

The Deacs raced two squads on the afternoon, with the "A" team of Brianna Dekine, Allison Johnson, Kendall Knous and Myesha Barr placing second with a mark of 4:01.14. The "B" team finished sixth in 4:12.82 with Julie McCauley, Montasia Golden, Erica Martin and Anneve Waith on the team.

 

 

In the high jump, Erika Martin secured ninth place, hitting a mark of 1.57m, while Julie McCauley took 16th (1.42m).

The duo also competed in the shot put, with Martin ranking 23rd (9.87m) and McCauley placing 25th (9.32m).

In the long jump, Erin Brooks led the squad by finishing second overall (5.60m), followed by Montasia Golden in eighth place (5.30m) and Phoebe Kershaw in16th(4.82m).

On the men's side, Hiter Harris ranked 46th (7.35), while William Ray took 53rd (7.40) in the 60-meter dash.

A mixed thrower 60-meter dash featured Ben Lincoln (7.70), Aiden McConnell (7.82), Patrick Donelan (7.84), Nate Wooten (7.93), Michael Belardia (8.13), Steve Michaelsen (8.16) and Jessie Merckle (8.52).

All five Deacons racing in the 300-meter dash finished in the top-50, leading off with Hiter Harris in 23rd with a mark of 36.92 followed by Beck Miller in 25th place with a time of 37.04. Brennan O'Brien placed 30th (37.34), Michael Mastanduno took 36th (37.86) and William Ray ranked 48th (38.96).

In the 500-m run, Daniel Harrison finished in 1:06.28 to take fourth place, while Malcom Nunley placed 23rd in 1:10.75.

Leading in the men's 1,000-meter run, Thomas Bojanowski finished first in the event, crossing the line in 2:27.47

Two other Deacons finished in the top-10, including Kyle Eager in fourth (2:31.91) and Michael McEnany in sixth (2:32.04). Michael Thomas placed 21st with a time of 2:52.16.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the Deacs raced the "A" team of Kyle Eager, Daniel Harrison, Thomas Bojanowski and Michael McEnany. The squad placed second with a mark 3:27.69

In the indoor long jump, Michael Mastanduno recorded a jump of 5.99m to place 21st overall, while Steve Michaelsen finished third in his collegiate shot put debut with his best throw of 14.52m

In the weight throw, Nate Wooten logged 15.15m to place third, while K.C. Barrett took sixth with a throw of 14.43m.

The Deacs will return to racing action on January 18 when they host the Wake Forest Invitational.
