Wake Forest Completes Indoor Opener at JDL Fast Track

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams opened its season Saturday at the JDL College Kick-off Classic. The event took place at the JDL Fast Indoor Track Complex in Winston-Salem.

Four competitors for the Demon Deacons finished in first place, two for the women's side and two on the men's team. Lara-Ann Schwede and Casidy Callahan finished in first for the women, while Kyle Graves and John Maurins both had first-place finishes for the men.

Callahan and Schwede both had first place finishes to lead the Deacons on the women's side. Callahan had a 13.60m toss in the shot put and Schwede crossed the finish line at 2:55.42 in the 1000m run.

In addition to Callahan and Schwede, six others had top-five finishes for Wake Forest. Emily Campbell also competed in the shot put finishing fourth and Kendal Knous finished second in the 1000m run. Also Montasia Golden finished second in the triple jump, Hunter Roberts finished third in the 60m hurdles, Nikolete Hurrinus finished third in the 400m run, Natalie Sukramani finished fifth in the mile run.

John Maurins tossed the shot put 17.17m for a top finish. Max Adams also competed in the shot put finishing in second with a distance of 16.00m, while Rusty Provins finished in fourth with a 15.94m mark. In their first collegiate meet, Maurins, Adams, and Provins all qualify for the ACC meet with their throws.

In addition for the men, Graves finished first in the mile run crossing the finish line with a time of 4:17.86. John Archie also added a top-five finish for the Deacs with a fourth place finish in the 1000m run.

The Demon Deacons will not return to action until Saturday, January 10, when they host the Wake Forest Invitational, which will be held at the JDL Fast Track.
