Track and Field to Compete in Virginia Tech Challenge This Weekend

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest track & field teams will once again hit the road for Blacksburg this weekend, traveling to compete in the Virginia Tech Challenge on Friday and Saturday. Action will begin Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. with the long jump and the women's distance medley relay. Live results throughout the entire meet will be available at flashresults.com. Both squads are coming off strong performances at last weekend's Fast Track Invitational, as Wake Forest played host to their first indoor track meet in school history. Mytoia Gathings finished first overall in the 200 meters in a time of 25.28, along with placing third in the finals of the 60-meters. Senior Molly Binder claimed a victory in the 800-meters with a season-best time of 2:12.03, while reliable jumper Erin Brooks placed first in the triple jump (39-4.5) and fourth in the long jump (18-7). On the men's side, a number of Deacons made their track & field debut, including Orville Reynolds in the 60 meters and Sherman Ragland in the 60 meter hurdles. Reynolds finished fourth overall in the 60 with a time of 6.84, while Ragland turned in a time of 8.14 in the 60 hurdles. Sophomore Brandon Terry placed second overall in the 200 meters in a time of 22.34, while Tom Morrison led the mid-distance events with a first-place finish in the 800 meters (1:54.68). Senior Paul Loeser also claimed a victory for the Demon Deacs at the Fast Track Invitational, finishing the 3,000 meters in a personal-best time of 8:23.33.
