Wake Forest women’s track and field freshman Alexandria Florent has been named the ACC Women’s Co-Field Performer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The honor is the first of Florent’s career and is the first for a Demon Deacon since Casidy Callahan won the award on March 18, 2014 for her performance in the women's hammer throw and the discus throw at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Florent shares the honor with Louisville long jumper Bre’Yana Wash.

In her first-ever outdoor event for the Deacons, Florent won the invitational high jump at the Wake Forest Open with a personal-best jump of 1.78m (5-10) last Friday at Kentner Stadium. The Santa Clarita, Calif. native’s mark was 5.75 inches better than that of the next closest competitor and tied the highest national mark for the opening week of the outdoor season.

The event win for Florent was the second of her collegiate career. She also won the indoor Wake Forest Invitational in January with a leap of 1.70m (5-7). That mark matched her highest of the indoor season. She was a top-five finisher in all five regular-season meets in which she competed and placed 11th at the ACC Championships.

Florent was one of five Deacs to win event at last week’s Wake Forest Open. She joined Charlie Ionata (men’s hammer throw), Sydney White (women’s pole vault), Jessie Merckle (women’s javelin) and Kathryn Lazarchick (women’s 800m).

The Demon Deacons continue their outdoor season this Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Relays.
