Winston-Salem Journal Article on White's Performance

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Incoming Wake Forest freshman pole vaulter Sydney White finished second at the USA Track & Field Junior Championships this past weekend in Bloomington, Ind.

White, a native of nearby Kernersville, N.C., vaulted a personal-record 13-3.5 (4.05 meters) to finish second out of 10 competitors. She finished behind only Emily Grove, a sophomore at the University of South Dakota, who cleared 13-11.

White's performance qualified her to represent the United States at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain, July 10-15.

A 2012 graduate of East Forsyth High School, White is one of the top pole vaulters in the nation. She is a three-time North Carolina state pole vault champion, holding the meet record at 12-9, and is a three-time All-American pole vaulter.

White is a USATF Junior Olympics National Champion and also competed for Team USA in the 2011 World Youth Games in Lille, France, where she finished eighth in her age group with a height of 13-1.5.
