Nov. 20, 2009

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest senior hurdler Caroline Vaughn has been named the King Fisher Society Student-Athlete of the Week.

The award, sponsored by the King Fisher Society, seeks to honor a student-athlete who has excelled both on and off the playing field as a Demon Deacon.

Vaughn had a tremendous junior season and will be one of the leaders on the track again this year. She set the school-record in the 60m dash as well as the 60m hurdles during the indoor season in '09 and then set the outdoor 100m and 400m hurdle school-records in the spring. Vaughn was also part of the 4x400m relay teams that set school-records during both the indoor and outdoor season in 2009 and earned All-ACC honors with a third place finish at the Outdoor Championships.

The Atlanta, Ga., native finished-off her outdoor season last year with a trip to the NCAA Championships. She earned a spot in both the 100m and 400m hurdle races as she ran a school-record 57.32 to take fourth in the 400m race at the NCAA East Regional and then advanced in the 100m race by virtue of her school-record 13.39 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in May.

Vaughn has also been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll each of the last two years and has been on the Wake Forest Dean's List for the last four semesters. After graduating in May, she is looking into graduate school but would also like to try running professionally.
