HIGH POINT, N.C. - Using a late rally, High Point defeated Wake Forest volleyball on Tuesday night 3-2 (25-16, 25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 13-15) in the Millis Center on the campus of High Point University. Senior Andrea Beck led the Demon Deacons with 20 kills while junior Kristin Grissom had 15.

Wake Forest won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-23, but High Point rallied in the final two sets before taking the fifth set 15-13 for the match.

Beck was 20-for-36 on attack attempts, hitting .472 on the night. She also assisted on a team-high four blocks. Sophomore Dani Thompson led the team in digs with 17.

The Deacs began the first set with a 4-0 run thanks to strong serving from freshman Megan Miller. High Point called the first timeout of the match after senior Andrea Beck notched her third kill of the set, giving Wake Forest a 12-8 lead. Beck tallied her fifth kill of the match to help win the first set 25-16. Sophomore Ashlee Rusk was 4-for-4 in kills in the frame.

In the second set, Wake Forest once again jumped out to an early lead. A block from Rosendall and Beck put the Deacs up 7-2, though after a quick kill from the Panthers, Wake Forest answered with two more points, making it 9-3. The Panthers battled, narrowing the score to 10-9, but Wake Forest responded by taking the set 25-23. Rusk capitalized on a pass from Rosendall, helping the Deacs win the set 25-23.

The third set proved to be much closer in the beginning with both teams deadlocked at seven. High Point took its first lead of the night after a kill from Courtney Johnk to make the score 8-7. Wake Forest evened the game at 14 after a net violation was whistled on High Point, though the Panthers finished out the set strong, winning it 25-20.

A hard-fought fourth set started out close once again between both teams. With the match tied at seven, the Demon Deacons took a 9-7 lead after a service ace from senior Heather Kraft and a solo block from Kristin Grissom. High Point came back and tied the set at 10, before extending its lead to 14-11. Holding a 19-14 advantage, the Deacs capitalized on back-to-back kills from Grissom and Rusk to pull within three. Yet the Panthers held strong, taking the fourth set 25-19.

In the decisive fifth set, both teams traded points with Kylie Hargreaves tying the score up at three with a kill. After falling behind by as much as three points, the Deacs evened the set at 11. After a kill from the Panthers, Beck nailed a kill to tie the game at 12. High Point rallied in the final points to win the set 15-13, taking the match 3-2

Grissom's 15 kills are a new career-high, while Beck picks up where she left off last season. The preseason All-ACC selection put up 20 kills in three matches last season, before picking up 20 on Tuesday night.

Rusk had seven kills and three block assists in the match, while Rosendall and Hargreaves each had six kills. Hargreaves had 12 digs while Rosendall had 10.
