KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Freshman Andrea Beck recorded a total of 22 kills on Saturday but the Wake Forest volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Dayton and Illinois State on the final day of the Holiday Inn West Bronco Classic.

The Deacons fell in the opening match of the day to Dayton (25-18, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17) and then lost in three-sets in the night cap to Illinois State (25-17, 25-16, 25-20). With the losses, Wake falls to 0-6 to start the season.

Beck also led the team in kills Friday night in a three-set loss to host Western Michigan. In all, the Winston-Salem, N.C., product, collected a total of 31 kills and hit .300 on the weekend. For her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Junior Lauren McIntyre also had a good weekend, recording a total of 23 kills and hitting a team-best .320. She led the team against Illinois State, putting away ten kills.

Against Dayton (6-0), the Deacons lost the first two sets but came out of the break and rallied to win the third-set 25-23. However, the Flyers regained the momentum and closed out the match in the fourth with a 25-17 victory.

The Flyers were led by Tiffany Gaerke with 17 kills and 11 digs. Amanda Cowdrey also posted a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs.

Beck led the Deacs with 13 kills, six total blocks and the team's lone service ace. Junior Kristen White added nine kills and eight digs but had five reception errors.

Setter Kelsey Jones notched her 30th career double-double against the Flyers with 33 assists and 10 digs. Senior Abby Miller collected a season-high 20 digs as well.

Each team recorded a total of 10 blocks but the Flyers out hit the Deacons .225 to .140. UD also recorded a total of 11 service aces compared to just one for Wake.

In the night cap, Illinois State (4-3) got a match-high 16 kills from Tabitha Visk to cruise to a three-set victory. The Redbirds hit a solid .313 in the match, posting 47 kills while the Deacs managed just 33 kills and hit .132.

McIntyre led the way with 10 kills and a .368 hitting percentage. Beck chipped in with nine kills and her second service ace while middle blocker Carlin Salmon added five kills.

Miller notched 14 digs in the match and Jones dished out 30 assists.

In addition to Visk, the Redbirds got 11 kills from Angela Rego and 16 digs from Kasey Mollerus.

As a team, ISU notched a total of eight blocks compared to just one for the Deacons.

Dayton and Western Michigan met in the final match of the tournament with matching 2-0 records. UD pulled out a 25-22 victory in the first set and then held on for a 31-29 victory in the second. The Flyers then finished off the match with a 25-20 victory in the third to claim the team title.

The weekend got off to a rough start as the Deacons found out that junior libero Megan Thornberry's finger injury that she suffered last weekend would require her to miss four to six weeks of action.

Wake will return to the court next weekend at the Georgia Southern Invitational. The Deacs will take on the hosts at 7 pm on Friday evening before battling SEC-foe Auburn at 10 am on Saturday. Wake will then close the tournament with a match against Coastal Carolina at 5 pm on Saturday.
